Earth Day Greenpoint 2018

Greenpointers participated in Earth Day activities sponsored by several organizations funded by GCEF. The Horticultural Society of New York offered flower dissection and seed bomb making in McGolrick Park, and GrowNYC hosted tours of its demonstration garden in McCarren Park. Greening Greenpoint stewarded 31 new trees along a block of Kingsland Avenue, and Neighbors Allied for Good Growth and NYC Department of Sanitation gave away 9,600 lbs. of compost recycled compliments of community composting,  At the Kingsland Wildflower Community Center, National Wildlife Federation’s Eco Schools showed kids how to get their hands dirty making seed bombs and offered tours of the local bird friendly rooftop and Newtown Creek Alliance, along with Urban Soils Institute held soil workshops and soil testing , and in the afternoon hosted a planting event.
